What is bicep tendonitis

Bicep tendonitis, also known as biceps tendinitis, is a condition that involves inflammation or irritation of the biceps tendon, which connects the biceps muscle to the shoulder joint. It is commonly seen in athletes who perform repetitive overhead motions, such as baseball pitchers and swimmers.

The symptoms of bicep tendonitis include pain, tenderness, and weakness in the front of the shoulder. The pain may worsen with overhead movements, lifting, or reaching. In severe cases, the biceps tendon may tear, which can cause a sudden, sharp pain in the shoulder.

Treatment for bicep tendonitis typically involves rest, ice, and physical therapy to help reduce inflammation and strengthen the muscles around the shoulder joint. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may also be used to help reduce pain and inflammation. In some cases, corticosteroid injections may be recommended to help reduce inflammation and pain. If conservative treatments are not effective, surgery may be necessary to repair or remove the damaged tendon.
